Charcoal Fire

“There are some moments that are so vivid that you never forget them…

John 18:18
John 21:9-11, 18-21

Jesus would go on to have breakfast with them, and personally recommission Peter to lead, love and care for the church… and even tell Peter you’re going to have another chance to stand for me, and you’ll die for me… and when the moment came, he wouldn’t deny Jesus that time…

• But as Jesus is saying all these things… The same charcoal fire at Peters denial was at his recommissioning and his prophetic word about his second chance to not deny the faith…

• John being there at both events, saw that fire… and the Holy Spirit, as he wrote his Gospel on Jesus, told him to add this detail… Jesus was ministering to the guilt-stricken heart of Peter in a special and personal way…

• We see here that even as the Lord is healing and ministering to Peter, he’s still missing it a bit… There is hope for us… God works in us and even through us despite us still missing it…

• We’re still responsible for what we do… but I’m so thankful for the grace of God in it… let’s strive to give that same grace that we receive…

John 20:11-28
Mary was heartbroken… wanting to honor Jesus in a proper burial… Jesus knew she needed a personal moment with him…

The disciples needed to see the power of Jesus with their eyes one more time, He gave that to them… and then gave them a commissioning…

Thomas was late to the party… They all had doubts… Thomas just gets noticed the most for them…. But Jesus makes a special trip just for him…

Jesus made a special trip to minister to Thomas,
• He shared a personal moment with Mary,
• He confirmed His resurrection to the disciples and commissioned them,
• He had breakfast with Peter around a charcoal fire…

James 5:13-18
Jesus ministered to the first disciples in special ways… He wants to minister to you in special ways…

I don’t fully understand Him, but I can honestly say, He is fully trustworthy.”
