Culture and Christ’s Church

“It’s the nature of God’s word to offend, it’s a refining fire…

“Understanding can wait, obedience cannot”

Obedience requires that you trust the one giving the orders… If there isn’t trust, no amount of explanation or understanding will move us to willfully follow…

Yes, be a studier of God and His word, but don’t wait until full understanding to respond… that day may never come… there are things I still don’t understand…

God is encouraging us to get back into His word and truth that we can become grounded and “pay much closer attention” to the truths of God…

No one drifts upstream, no one drifts to Holiness…

Culture informs us as to the world we are ministering into… culture does not inform us on what truth is…

The maps will change, but the compass remains the same…

We need the Holy Spirit to make the Word alive to us, to be illuminated, we need a word from God…

Ministering to the Culture around us, as Christ’s Church, requires that we get a word from God…

There have been four responses to the culture we have faced, are facing, and will face… (cultural drift is not new)
1. Accommodation – a loss of truth
2. Opposition – a loss of grace and love…
3. Withdraw – a loss of opportunity…
4. Engage – Truth and Love meets here…

God’s calling us to be salt and light… Salt and Light in a dark world isn’t a compliment, it’s a responsibility…

So how are we to engage?
First Know who you are – know your calling… child of God, salt and light… you are born and alive today for such a time as this…

Second watch the undercurrent and riptide… things in culture that are contrary to God… prepare yourself in the word…

Finally Repent… keep coming back to your calling… like riding a bike, adjustments…
• If we’ve missed it along the way God’s grace is there to return us to the right track… a little repentance is good for all of our souls… we all need a heart that’s quick to repent…”
