Hosanna

“Jesus’ entrance was far more than a glorified red carpet… and it’s worth understanding that palm branches weren’t just used because they happen to be laying around… Leviticus 23:39-40

Palm branches were used as a form and way to celebrate before the Lord, to rejoice…
• this was a thoughtful choice… they were praise the Lord for Jesus, rejoicing for Jesus…
• They were rejoicing before the Lord that Jesus was coming into their city…

I personally believe our walk with Jesus is greatly deepened if… rejoicing for the presence of the Lord is a regular part of our lives…
• It’s so easy to take for granted the fact that every day of our life Jesus chooses to be with us…

Adding to this point Luke attention was focused on this phrase the crowd spoke…
Luke 19:38 “Peace in heaven and glory in the highest.”
• Peace – is used here meaning; joy, triumph, exultation…

This is very close to what the angels said of Jesus at His birth…
Luke 2:14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”

I believe incredible peace can be found in rejoicing…
• This doesn’t mean that we’re unaware of our lives, or we stick our heads in the sand… only it shifts our focus from our problems to the source of our answers and peace…

• Thelma Smith would say, “I don’t know how people make it without the Lord.” Her life wasn’t easy, but she knew something about rejoicing in the presence of God…

• Let our lives be filled with rejoicing…

Finally, that word hosanna, have you ever taken the time to really look into its meaning…
• This was a word a persons would use when asking the king for help, or if they had a grievances, they used the word hosanna!
• This shows that the people acknowledged Christ as their king in that moment, and looked to him for deliverance…

• Hosanna = oh save us, oh deliever us, oh liberate us, let us be victorious… we adore you…

And it was not only Hosanna, but Hosanna in the highest!
• Is it any wonder the Pharisees where calling on Jesus to stop… But Jesus couldn’t… Luke 19:39-40

My friends this world, and the enemy of your soul, will cry out for you to stop…
• they will seek to shame you…
• they will seek place fear in you…
• anything they can do to keep you from living a life that is rejoicing before the Lord for His presence…

Our cry in this life must be: Hosanna = oh save us, oh deliever us, oh liberate us, let us be victorious… we adore you… and rejoice! We praise you all the way to the heavens…
• Let us live lives of rejoicing…
• When you think of Hosanna I want Psalm 113-118 to come to mind… especially Psalm 118…”
